Eric Holder: Incompetent Fool or Bald-faced Liar

Operation: Fast and Furious. There was talk some time ago that this was a scandal capable of taking down the administration. Never believed it, myself. And really, I still don't. But it looks like it will take down Eric Holder, if nothing else.

In May, Holder testified about Fast and Furious before a Congressional committee, essentially saying that the operation was news to him, since he had just become aware of it in the last few weeks. But now, CBS has obtained documents showing that Holder had been sent multiple memos on the operation, going back to July, 2010 (that's ten months earlier than he claimed). The explanation(s) from the Justice Department for Holder's apparent perjury are priceless:
The Justice Department told CBS News that the officials in those emails were talking about a different case started before Eric Holder became Attorney General. And tonight they tell CBS News, Holder misunderstood that question from the committee - he did know about Fast and Furious - just not the details.
First explanation: there was another Operation: Fast and Furious (because if you read the first memo from July 5th, 2010, it specifically refers to Operation: Fast and Furious). Riiiight. Or maybe Holder thought it was a movie review.

Second explanation: Holder misunderstood the question. The actual question, as asked by Rep. Daniel Issa, was "When did you first know about the program, officially I believe called Fast and Furious? To the best of your knowledge, what date?" Holder misunderstood that question? I suppose it depends on what the definition of "know" is, you know?

This kind of reminds me of the Pelosi/waterboarding story. She pretty much wormed her way out of that. But I don't think Holder is going to be so lucky. After all, this isn't just about the info in Holder's case. He's the one actually in charge, the one who is ultimately responsible for Fast and Furious.

So, either he doesn't read the pertinent memos and reports he is sent--making him an incompetent fool--or he lied to the Congressional committee. Either way, he's a dead man walking...

Cheers, all.
